Asia Markets Recover, Europe Mixed, Crude Trades At $86 - Global Markets Today While US Was Sleeping

On Monday, October 23, the U.S. stock markets closed mixed as Treasury yields retreated from 5%, and investors turned their attention to upcoming earnings and economic data.

Nasdaq closed higher, ending a four-day losing streak. Communication services showed the most significant gain among the S&P 500’s 11 major sectors, while energy shares experienced the most significant percentage decline.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 0.58% to 32,936.41, the S&P 500 was down 0.17% to 4,217.04, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.37% and closed at 13,018.33.

  • Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed 0.32% higher at 31,062.35 on Tuesday, led by gains in the Mining, Paper & Pulp and Steel sectors.
  • Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.19%, closing the session at 6,856.90, led by gains in the Metals & Mining, Resources and Materials sectors.
  • China’s Shanghai Composite gained 0.78% to close the session at 2,962.24, while the Shenzhen CSI 300 rose 0.37%, closing at 3,487.13.
  • Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index dipped 1.01% and closed at 16,999.00.

  • The European STOXX 600 index was up 0.24%.
  • Germany’s DAX gained 0.30%.
  • France’s CAC rose 0.61%.
  • The U.K.’s FTSE 100 traded lower by 0.04%.

Commodities at 06:00 AM ET

  • Crude Oil WTI was trading higher by 0.60% at $86.00/bbl, and Brent was up 0.59% at $90.36/bbl.
  • Natural Gas declined 0.18% to $3.267.
  • Gold was trading lower by 0.48% at $1,978.25, Silver declined 0.77% to $23.032, and Copper was up 0.11% to $3.5905.

Dow futures were up 0.34%, S&P 500 futures gained 0.50% and Nasdaq 100 Futures climbed 0.63%.
