Asian Markets Mixed; Europe In Green, Crude Oil Below $75, Gold Nears $2K - Global Markets Today While US Was Sleeping

On Thursday, November 16th, U.S. stock markets closed mixed reflecting Cisco and Walmart's weak forecasts.

In economic data, U.S. initial jobless claims increased to 231,000, a three-month high, surpassing expectations, while export and import prices fell 1.1% and 0.8%, respectively, in October.

Energy dropped 2.1%, the most among S&P sectors, as crude prices fell. Communications and tech sectors topped gains.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 0.13% to 34,945.47, the S&P 500 was up 0.12% to 4,508.24, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.07%, ending the session at 14,113.67.

Asian Markets Today

Japan's Nikkei 225 ended Friday's session higher by 0.46% at 33,585.20, led by gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Precision Instruments, and Power sectors.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.13%, closing the session at 7,049.40, led by losses in the Energy, Consumer Discretionary, and Utilities sectors. 

China's Shanghai Composite gained 0.11% to close the session at 3,054.37, and the Shenzhen CSI 300 was down 0.12%, closing at 3,568.07.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index declined 1.94% and closed at 17,471.50.

Eurozone at 06:30 AM ET

The European STOXX 600 index was up 0.97%, Germany's DAX gained 0.84%, while France's CAC rose 0.87%.

The UK's FTSE 100 traded higher by 0.82%.

Commodities at 06:30 AM ET

Crude Oil WTI was trading higher by 1.39% at $73.91/bbl, and Brent was up by 1.45% at $78.53/bbl.

Natural Gas declined 0.56% to $3.045.

Gold was trading up 0.32% at $1993.55, Silver gained 0.69% to $24.098, and Copper rose 0.05% to $3.7043.

Dow futures were up 0.24%, S&P 500 futures gained 0.21%, while Nasdaq 100 Futures slipped 0.01%.

Forex at 06:30 AM ET

The U.S. Dollar Index was down 0.24% to 104.09. USD/JPY declined 0.87% to 149.39, and AUD/USD slid 0.49% to 1.5378.
