The 2024 presidential election is less than a year away and could have voters faced with a rematch of the 2020 presidential election, which saw voters select between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
While Biden won the 2020 election, recent election polls had shown Trump pulling ahead. Here's a look at the latest weekly national voter poll.
What Happened: President Biden is the favorite to win the Democratic Party nomination in the 2024 election.
Former President Donald Trump is the current favorite to win the Republican nomination for president. In the latest weekly poll, Trump holds a 50-point lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, marking one of his biggest leads since polling began in December.
The weekly Morning Consult poll asked registered voters who they would select in a hypothetical matchup of Trump vs. Biden.
In this week's poll, Biden received 43% of the vote, coming in ahead of Trump who had 42% of the vote. The remaining voters selected Someone Else (11%) and Don't Know (5%).
This marked a strong gain for Biden, who had only 41% of the vote in the previous poll. Trump lost two percentage points from the previous poll when he had 44% of the vote and a three-point lead.
By party, 84% of Democrats selected Biden and 86% of Republicans selected Trump for the hypothetical 2024 poll, marking a gain of one point and loss of one point respectively.
The important Independent voters, who could decide the election selected their 2024 pick as the following, with last week's results in parentheses:
Biden: 33% (31%)
Trump: 37% (37%)
Someone Else: 20% (22%)

Why It's Important: Biden is back on top in the poll of nationally registered voters, after trailing Trump for three straight weeks.
Over the past 10 weeks, Biden has been tied with Trump four times, ahead of the former president three times and ranked behind the former president three times.
Prior to the last 10 weeks, Biden had posted a lead of one to two percentage points in almost all the polls dating back to when polling began in December.
Biden retaking the lead comes as Trump's civil fraud trial in the state of New York continues and had the former president and several of his older children on the witness stand.
Biden recently saw his approval ratings hit record lows since taking office.
The 2024 presidential election takes place on Nov. 5.
