President Joe Biden took a dig at his predecessor, Donald Trump, and his social media platform, Truth Social.
What Happened: Biden, in a tweet on Monday, mocked Trump’s late-night rants on Truth Social. He asserted his ability to answer questions that Trump can’t.
“And you won't catch me ranting on Truth Social at 3 o'clock in the morning,” Biden tweeted.
Biden who is in a heated contest for the presidency with Trump also included a video in the post. He was asked in the video if he would like to tackle climate change or “do the bidding of oil executives.” He responds by saying “Trump will do the bidding of oil companies.” He said the actions of the former president would make us all “sicker.”
The incumbent also addressed lowering the cost of insulin for diabetics and student debt relief and underscored his achievements on those issues.
When asked if he would like to meet with voters or rant on Truth Social at 3 a.m. in the morning, Biden said, “What is he doing at 3 a.m. in the morning, I don’t know…I guess the guy can’t sleep. Must have a guilty conscience.”
Notably, Trump owned a 57.6% stake in Truth Social’s parent company Trump Media & Technology Group Corp DJT, and is known primarily to post on the platform.
Why It Matters: Biden’s tweet comes in the wake of recent events involving the Biden family. Hunter Biden, the President’s son, was convicted on three felony gun charges. This was the first trial involving a child of a sitting president.
Earlier, Biden had launched a scathing attack on Trump, labeling him a “convicted felon” and suggesting that “something snapped” in him after his 2020 election loss. The President had warned that Trump’s threat would be even greater in a second term and accused him of being “clearly unhinged.”
Trump, on the other hand, has been escalating his personal attacks on Biden, sharing a video on his social media platform Truth Social depicting the President with his hands and feet bound. The video displays two moving trucks adorned with flags and decals endorsing Trump.
The 2024 presidential election is just around the corner, and most election polls show a close head-to-head rematch between Trump and Biden.
Trump and Biden have been the favorites in the race in polls and betting odds from sportsbooks that offer wagering on the election.
