Robert Kennedy Jr. Looking For A Trump Administration Gig In Return For Supporting Ex-President, Says Super PAC Director

Independent presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. is reportedly planning to endorse Republican candidate Donald Trump, potentially securing a role in Trump’s administration if he is elected.

What Happened: Kennedy’s campaign announced on Wednesday that he would address the nation on Friday in Arizona, discussing his future plans, as reported by Reuters.

Larry Sharpe, outreach director with the Super PAC American Values 2024, stated that Kennedy’s endorsement of Trump hinges on whether Trump offers Kennedy a position in his administration. Trump had earlier expressed openness to Kennedy playing a role in his administration if the independent candidate drops out of the race and endorses him.

ABC News also reported that Kennedy planned to drop out of the race by the end of the week and endorse Trump. Kennedy also hopes to continue his political movement in some capacity, which could involve remaining on the ballot in some states, according to Sharpe, reported Reuters.

Why It Matters: Kennedy’s running mate, Nicole Shanahan, confirmed to Los Angeles media company Impact Theory that Kennedy was considering ending his campaign to join forces with Trump. Trump has previously sought Kennedy’s support, as revealed by a leaked phone call in July.

In the interview on Tuesday, Shanahan hinted at a possible exit from the race, stating, “We don’t want to be a spoiler. We wanted to win. We wanted a fair shot," according to a prior report.

Earlier in July, Benzinga reported that Kennedy had engaged in discussions with Trump about endorsing his campaign and potentially taking up a senior role in a second Trump administration.

Furthermore, Polymarket data on August 20 indicated an 80% likelihood that Kennedy would exit the 2024 race before November, reflecting the highest chance thus far.
