Tesla CEO Elon Musk and early OpenAI investor Vinod Khosla have once again locked horns in a public disagreement on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
What Happened: Venture capitalist Khosla last week shared a news article discussing Argentina’s high poverty rate under President Javier Milei’s austerity program, drawing comparisons with the potential consequences of former President Donald Trump’s proposed economic policies.
However, Khosla mixed up Argentina’s unemployment and poverty rates and was subsequently called out by users on the social media platform, including Musk.
X’s Community Notes flagged Khosla’s post for a factual error, saying, “This post contains a factual error. The linked article doesn't mention unemployment rate numbers but a poverty rate of ~52%.”

Musk responded to the flagging of Khosla’s post with a blunt “You are dumb.”
Khosla retaliated on Sunday, accusing Musk of failing to understand the difference between poverty and underemployment and alleging bias on his social media platform.
“My nuance vs. your outright posting of false pics? I get a community comment and yours didn't. I thought you were above this kind of bias at X,” he stated.
When another user pointed out that Khosla’s reference to “false pics” was actually a satire piece, Musk retorted, “Vinod is just actually not smart.”

Why It Matters: This public disagreement is not the first instance of friction between Musk and Khosla. For instance, in March earlier this year, Khosla criticized Musk’s lawsuit against ChatGPT-parent OpenAI, calling it a “salve on a bruised ego.”
The tech mogul also had a heated exchange with Khosla after the latter mentioned government support for Musk’s businesses. “Do some research before you display your utter ignorance,” Musk said at the time.
In the 2024 U.S. presidential election, Khosla and Musk are supporting different candidates.
While Musk has publicly endorsed Trump as the next president, Khosla, along with nearly 500 venture capitalists, has backed Vice President Kamala Harris.
