Sometimes Slower Is Faster

Back in 1966, Simon and Garfunkel released a song that began with these lines: "Slow down, you move too fast." Nearly 50 years later, it seems that the world wants everything faster: food, news, cars. Even trades, which only used to be available every hour, now have some with expiration times every five minutes.

Darrell Martin’s daughter, Felicity, had qualified to barrel race in the RFD TV American Rodeo Qualifier Tour. To prepare for this, he was taking her, along with her horse, Comet, to an arena every Tuesday night where they could practice barrel racing. Felicity is only nine-years-old, and one of the youngest competitors.

Martin noticed that Comet was going around the first barrel too fast and too wide. Because of this, Felicity would have to make Comet go a little slower on the first barrel, which meant they would have to spend time correcting to get back on track for the second barrel. By slowing down for the first barrel, they could have a faster time and get in tighter on the second barrel.

Sometimes you have to go slower to go faster. Slower is usually smoother. In trading, sometimes you have to go a little slower; you may even have to back up. You need to make sure you have all the rules down and you are not rushing to take the trade only to make mistakes.

Sometimes when trading binary options, you can get into trading and you want to go faster, faster faster. Maybe you did a couple of trades that expired at the end of the day. Let’s suppose you had eight hours until expiration but that seemed too slow for you. Next, you moved to giving yourself four hours until expiration time. You felt that was similar to watching paint dry. Twenty-minute binaries intrigued you and you gave them a shot. Faster, yes, but still not fast enough. You looked at five-minute binary options and gave them a try. Five-minute binaries had you hooked! They can be addictive, but maybe not profitable.

It can be fun to go fast, but it may not always help you accomplish your goals.

Spreads can be a good alternative to back up and try again, or for the first time, if you have not tried trading them before now. They are not as slow as you think. They might get you to your goals faster by backing up and going a little slower on a different product.

Invest the time needed to be the best trader you can become. Sometimes slower is faster, especially if it helps you reach your goals.
