US Stock Futures Up; Cisco Shares Jump In Pre-Market

US stock futures are higher this morning, after a strong decline in the prior session. Shares of Cisco Systems Inc CSCO surged about 9.2% in pre-market trading after the company reported upbeat quarterly results. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 128 points to 10,853.00 and S&P 500 index futures rose 16.50 points to 1,140.00. Nasdaq 100 futures jumped 29.75 points to 2,114.75. US stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping 4.62% to 10,719.94, the S&P 500 index dipping 4.42% to 1,120.76 and the Nasdaq 100 index declining 4.09% to 2,381.05. Data on weekly jobless claims and international trade will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET. Cisco Systems reported upbeat quarterly results and also issued better-than-expected sales forecast. Cisco reported its FQ4 profit at $1.2 billion, or $0.22 per share, down from $1.9 billion, or $0.33 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue climbed to $11.2 billion, from $10.8 billion. Its adjusted income came in at $0.40 per share. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.38 per share on revenue of $11 billion. Kohl's Corporation KSS is projected to report its Q2 EPS at $1.02 on revenue of $4.31 billion. Brinker International Inc EAT is estimated to report its Q4 EPS at $0.47 on revenue of $710.57 million. NVIDIA Corporation NVDA is projected to report its Q2 EPS at $0.25 on revenue of $1.01 billion. Nordstrom Inc JWN is projected to report its Q2 earnings at $0.74 per share on revenue of $2.71 billion. Sara Lee Corporation SLE is projected to report its Q4 EPS at $0.20 on revenue of $2.22 billion. Wendy's Company (The) WEN is estimated to report its Q2 EPS at $0.05 on revenue of $758.24 million. DeVry Inc DV is projected to report its Q4 EPS at $1.03 on revenue of $545.71 billion. News Corp NWSA reported a 21% drop in its fiscal fourth-quarter profit. The company's earnings declined to $683 million, or $0.26 per share, from $875 million, or $0.33 per share, in the year-earlier period. Excluding items, News Corp earned $0.35 per share. Its revenue climbed 11% to $8.96 billion. However, analysts were expecting a profit of $0.32 per share on revenue of $8.46 billion. European markets were higher today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index surged 1.31%, London's FTSE 100 Index moved up 0.96%, French CAC 40 index rose 1.71% and German DAX 30 index gained 2.34%. Most Asian markets ended lower, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average dropping 0.6284%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 moving down 0.09% and China's Shanghai Composite gaining 1.27%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 0.9530% and India's Sensex declined 0.39%. The dollar index declined 0.43% to 74.52. The euro gained 0.7% versus the greenback to trade at $1.4242. December gold futures surged $3.30 to $1,787.20 an ounce in electronic trading on Globex. September oil futures gained $0.39 to $83.29 a barrel.
