In seven months, voters will decide the outcome of the 2024 presidential election, which is shaping up to be a battle between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
When picking the next president, there’s a lot to consider. But one election poll might have gone a bit overboard with some rather unique questions.
What Happened: Over the past several months, many election polls have shown a close race when voters choose between Biden and Trump in a potential rematch of the 2020 presidential election.
Election polls usually ask voters who they'd pick, what matters most when choosing a candidate, and how they feel about the main contenders.
A recent poll from Echelon Insights asked some unique questions that now have the internet divided on at least one issue. Here were the questions and the results of which candidate would perform better:
- Building IKEA Furniture: 31% Biden, 34% Trump, 35% Unsure
- The board game Monopoly: 27% Biden, 49% Trump, 24% Unsure
- A hot dog eating contest: 13% Biden, 58% Trump, 29% Unsure
- Fighting a medium-sized dog: 17% Biden, 48% Trump, 35% Unsure
- The TV show "Family Feud": 28% Biden, 48% Trump, 24% Unsure
- Managing a fantasy football team: 26% Biden, 43% Trump, 31% Unsure
- Having a poker face: 32% Biden, 47% Trump, 22% Unsure
- Solving an Escape Room: 28% Biden, 42% Trump, 30% Unsure
- Karaoke: 26% Biden, 35% Trump, 39% Unsure
- Creating a road trip playlist: 29% Biden, 33% Trump, 38% Unsure
- Changing a baby's diaper: 44% Biden, 24% Trump, 32% Unsure
While many of the questions seem out there, the question of who would be better at building IKEA furniture went somewhat viral and has the internet divided.
"This is a surprisingly deep question," one user tweeted.
Several people were surprised to see Trump with the higher percent and questioned if the former president has ever used tools in his life, while Biden has worked on old cars.
"Trump would be completely helpless with Ikea furniture. I doubt he's ever read an instruction manual or used a screwdriver in his life," a user said.
Another user joked about the seriousness of the question.
"I literally believe our nation will crumble if (blank) wins, why are you asking me this."
Others believed that perhaps there is merit to the IKEA question and it could be used in the future.
"Can the first presidential debate be just watching them assemble Ikea furniture? It would be hilarious," a user said.
Another X user sees merit in making the assembly challenge determine the next president.
"New plan for the election: first candidate to put together an IKEA table gets to be POTUS."

Why It's Important: The IKEA question was not the only one asked. The poll found that 1,020 voters in April showed a preference of leaning towards Biden. In the poll, 49% selected they would probably or lean towards voting for Biden, compared to 46% who said they would probably or lean towards voting for Trump.
When voters could choose between third-party and independent candidates, the results were:
- Joe Biden: 41%
- Donald Trump: 40%
- Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: 11%
- Cornel West: 2%
- Jill Stein: 2%
The 2024 election is still a tight race, according to polls. While the IKEA furniture test probably won't happen, it's got the internet buzzing and highlights the growing divide between the two front-runners.
