US Stock Futures Slightly Up After Japan Earthquake; Alcoa Earnings In Focus

US stock futures are slightly higher this morning after another strong earthquake rattled northeastern Japan. Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 14 points to 12,340.00 and futures on the S&P 500 stock index gained 1 point to 1,324.80. Nasdaq 100 futures added 3.50 points to 2,321.50. US stocks closed lower on Friday, with the Dow Jones industrial average dropping 0.24% to 12,380, the Standard & Poor's 500 Index declining 0.40% to 1,328 and the Nasdaq Composite Index losing 0.56% to 2,780. No major economic data are due for release today. However, Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Janet Yellen will speak in New York. The board of NYSE Euronext NYX rejected the unsolicited $11.3 billion takeover bid from Nasdaq OMX Group Inc NDAQ and IntercontinentalExchange Inc ICE. Alcoa Inc AA is projected to report its Q1 EPS at $0.27 on revenue of $6.07 billion. Shaw Group Inc SHAW is projected to report its FQ2 EPS at $0.47 on revenue of $1.54 billion. Most Asian markets ended lower, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average dropping 0.50%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 gaining 0.57% and China's Shanghai Composite losing 0.24%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell 0.38% and India's Sensex declined 0.97%. European markets were mixed today. While STOXX Europe 600 Index has dropped 0.41%, London's FTSE 100 Index moved up 0.06%. Crude oil futures fell 0.90% to $111.78 a barrel in electronic trade. Against the dollar, the euro gained 0.0138% to $1.4459. Against the yen, the greenback fell 0.2593% to 84.6300 yen.
