US Stock Futures Slightly Down As Investors Await ADP Report

US stock futures are slightly lower this morning, as investors are awaiting figures on private-sector employment. Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 9 points to 12,549.00 and futures on the S&P 500 stock index fell 0.60 point to 1,343.30. Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 4.75 points to 2,367.00. US stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones industrial average gaining 1.03% to 12,569.79, the broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rising 1.06% to 1,345.20 and the NASDAQ composite index surging 1.37% to 2,835.30. Automatic Data Processing will release its May private-sector employment survey at 8:15 a.m. ET. Data on May US car sales and an ISM report on manufacturing activity in May will also be released today. Dollar General Corporation DG is projected to report its Q1 EPS at $0.50 on revenue of $3.42 billion. Esterline Technologies Corp ESL is expected to report its Q2 EPS at $1.10 on revenue of $412.22 million. Copart Inc CPRT is estimated to post its FQ3 EPS at $0.70 on revenue of $241.56 million. Phillips-Van Heusen Corp PVH reported upbeat first-quarter earnings and lifted its full-year outlook. PVH reported its quarterly earnings at $1.23 per share on a non-GAAP basis, on revenue of $1.37 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.16 per share on revenue of $1.34 billion. For the year, PVH now projects adjusted earnings of $4.80 to $5 per share on revenue of $5.7 billion to $5.75 billion. However, analysts expected earnings of $4.90 per share on revenue of $5.66 billion. Yahoo Inc YHOO reached an agreement with Alibaba Group ALBCF over the ownership of Alipay, according to a person familiar with the matter. Mediatek announced its plans to tie up with YHOO to embed Yahoo's services into its chips. Lions Gate Entertainment Corp LGF swung to a profit in its fiscal fourth quarter. Lions Gate reported its quarterly net income at $46.2 million, or $0.33 per share, versus a loss of $22.3 million, or $0.19 per share, in the year-earlier quarter. Its revenue dropped 6% to $376.9 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.18 per share on revenue of $400.07 million. Asian markets ended mixed, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average gaining 0.27%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 moving down 0.01% and China's Shanghai Composite declining 0.97%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index rose 0.0015% and India's Sensex jumped 0.60%. European markets were lower today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index has dropped 0.17%, London's FTSE 100 Index moved down 0.08%. The euro-zone manufacturing purchasing managers index dropped to a seven-month low in May. The UK manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index dropped in May to a 20-month low to 52.1 from a downwardly revised 54.4 in April. The dollar index dropped 0.16% to 74.52.
