US Stock Futures Flat; Amazon Shares Rise In Pre-Market Trading

US stock futures are flat this morning, amid concerns over sovereign debt. Shares of Amazon.com Inc AMZN surged about 6% in pre-market trading after the company reported upbeat quarterly results. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 11 points to 12,443.00 and S&P 500 index futures rose 0.50 points to 1,326.70. Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 2 points to 2,421.50. US stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping 0.73% to 12,501.30, the S&P 500 index declining 0.41% to 1,331.94 and the Nasdaq 100 index dipping 0.10% to 2,839.96. The Federal Reserve's Beige Book summary of regional economic conditions will be released at 2 p.m. ET. Data on June durable-goods orders will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET. Corning Incorporated GLW is projected to report its Q2 EPS at $0.47 on revenue of $1.96 billion. Visa Inc V is projected to report its FQ3 EPS at $1.23 on revenue of $2.30 billion. Whole Foods Market Inc WFM is expected to report its Q3 EPS at $0.48 on revenue of $2.42 billion. ConocoPhillips COP is expected to report its Q2 EPS at $2.20 on revenue of $58.71 billion. Dow Chemical Company (The) DOW is estimated to report its Q2 EPS at $0.81 on revenue of $14.74 billion. Delta Air Lines Inc DAL is estimated to report its Q2 earnings at $0.46 per share on revenue of $9.16 billion. Boeing Company (The) BA is projected to report its Q2 EPS at $0.96 on revenue of $16.43 billion. Ecolab Inc ECL is projected to report its Q2 EPS at $0.64 on revenue of $1.65 billion. Amazon reported a decline in its Q2 earnings. Amazon posted its quarterly net income at $191 million, or $0.41 per share, down from $207 million, or $0.45 per share, in the year-ago quarter. Its revenue climbed 51% to $9.91 billion. Analysts expected earnings of $0.35 per share on revenue of $9.37 billion. Las Vegas Sands Corp LVS swung to profit in the second quarter. LVS reported its quarterly earnings at $368 million, or $0.45 per share, compared with a loss of $5 million, or a penny per share, in the year-ago quarter. On an adjusted basis, LVS' earnings came in at $0.54 per share. Its revenue jumped 47% to $2.35 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.44 per share on revenue of $2.21 billion. European markets were lower today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index dropped 0.25%, London's FTSE 100 Index moved down 0.17%, French CAC 40 index fell 0.49% and German DAX 30 index dropped 0.16%. Most Asian markets ended lower, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average dipping 0.4940%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 moving down 0.73% and China's Shanghai Composite rising 0.76%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 0.1346% and India's Sensex dipped 0.51%. Gold futures gained, with the August contract rising $5.50 to $1,622.30 an ounce in electronic trading.
